Robert L. "Larry" Koehl

Robert L. "Larry" Koehl, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Larry was born on October 30, 1935, son of the late Robert H. and Garnet M. (McGary) Koehl. Larry was a 1954 graduate of North Side High School and an outstanding athlete participating in 3 major sports. He then went on to Western Michigan and Ball State Universities prior to being drafted by the Detroit Tigers Baseball Franchise. He later played for the Minnesota Twins during his 6 year run at professional baseball from 1958 to 1964. Larry was then proudly inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of fame in 2005. He then went on to work for the telephone company and he owned several businesses in the Fort Wayne area. In more recent times he was an avid sportsman but playing golf became his passion. Surviving family include his children, Tami (Leonard Smith) Dennon, Tim Koehl, and Lisa Black; grandchildren, Brett (Samantha) Dennon, Chelsea (Sean) Glade, Jaxon Koehl, Emary Koehl, and Brent (Heather) Koehl, Steven Jones, and Nicholas Black and Kylee Black; five great grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Davis. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Donna (Baumgartner) Koehl; and grandchildren, Danielle Dennon, Derek Dennon, and Emma Black. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to a donor's choice in Larry's memory.
