Robert (Bob) Eugene Bowman

Robert "Bob" Eugene Bowman, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Bob was born on September 28, 1938, in Richland Township, Dekalb County IN to the late Kenneth and Clara (Diederick) Bowman-Sabasky. After graduating from Garrett High School, Bob married the love of his life, Sandra (John) Bowman on October 17, 1959. While settling and starting their family in Fort Wayne, Bob worked for International Harvester, retiring after 40 years. After Harvester, Bob worked for Cover-all Rental and Moellering Supply. For many years he also held the very important role of Easter Bunny and Santa Claus at Glenbrook Mall! Over the years, Bob was extremely involved in youth sports throughout the community. For 25 years, he coached youth baseball for team "Formscraft" at Elmhurst Little League and umpired for Three Rivers Assoc. He served as a basketball official and a WOWO Aces official. Bob was also involved with elementary basketball and wrestling, serving as a coach for Emmaus Lutheran School. Youth and sports was not Bob's only passion. Music was just as important to his life. Bob was a lifetime barbershopper singing lead. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Summit City Chorus as well as the Hobart Chorus. He served as director of the Columbia City Chorus and the Angola Chorus. Bob sang in many quartets, his last quartet being "Hoosier Gentry". Bob was preceded in death by his wife and parents; his step-father Mike Sabasky; brothers Kenneth Bowman Jr. and Edward Bowman; sister Patricia Weaver; and daughter Susan (Bowman) Lester. He is survived by sons Jerry (RaeAnn) Bowman and John (Shelley) Bowman; daughter Brenda (Jack) Bowman; grandchildren Kristin (Heath) Bodkin, Kyle (Christa) Bowman, Paul Lester, Beth (Nathan) Calloway and Sandra Lester; great-grandchildren Jaxson Bodkin, Emma and Jason Bowman. He cherished his family above all; he will be greatly missed. Visitation for Bob will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Funeral service is Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 West Jefferson Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN.
