Rex Alton Swartz, 61, of Fort Wayne, passed November 19, 2013. Mr. Swartz was born April 10, 1952 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to John and Betty (Boyd) Swartz. A graduate of Snider High School class of 1970, Rex took to the culinary arts with a passion. Over a span of 21 years with Don Hall’s Gas House, he worked his way to head of kitchen, formed countless bonds with friends, and always brought good times with him. His contagious sense of humor and embracing personality made for a welcoming and pleasurable atmosphere. Outside of the kitchen, he continued to work with his hands in the form of carpentry, from small projects to installing additions to his childhood home. A loving son, father, grandfather, brother and cousin; Rex enjoyed time with family and formed unique bonds with those he loved. He is survived by his children, Erik Swartz and Megan Hoff; granddaughter, Ellie Swartz; brothers Michael Swartz, Patrick Swartz, John Swartz and sister Bonnie (Swartz) Wallace; nephews, Bryan Swartz, Michael Wallace and Daniel Wallace. His parents, John and Betty Swartz of Fort Wayne, preceded him in death.
