Phillip E. “Pop” Mitchell, 75, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024. He was born on April 22, 1949 in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late George and Mabel Juanita (Brunty) Mitchell. He attended Ironton High School. Pop served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for Scott Paper Company and later Foamex for 38 years before retiring. In his free time, he drove for the Amish, enjoyed woodworking, bowling, coaching baseball, and especially attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s many events. He will be remembered as a real jokester who could make even the heaviest days lighter and the darkest days brighter. Pop was a man who deeply cared, deeply served, and deeply loved those around him. Surviving family include his wife, Linda Mitchell; children, Wendy Gamez, Stacy Mitchell, Angela Mitchell, Phillip (Megan) Mitchell, Jr., Rebecca (Steven) Slusser, Rhonda (Ron) Rennels, Angela Bazzinett, Victoria Ormiston, and Tamra (Travis) Richardson; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Pop was preceded in passing by a granddaughter and grandson; and one sister and one brother. Funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the funeral home. Condolences may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
