Paul H. Stein, 92, of Fort Wayne, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday February 16, 2017 at Woodview Assisted Living, Fort Wayne. Born on February 24, 1924, in Ravenna, Nebraska, he was a son of the late Herman and Ida (Ruff) Stein. He was a graduate of Purdue University in 1948. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne; served as elder and on numerous church boards and committees. He was instrumental in bringing Worship for Shut-ins to Fort Wayne. He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army ordnance during WWII, in the China/Burma/India Theater, and was awarded the Bronze Star medal. A member of American Legion Post #499; he retired from DANA Corp, in 1981 after more than 30 years of service.
He is survived by his children, Susan (Donald) Esterline, of Columbia City, Rev. James (Catherine) Stein, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Carolyn Shilts, of Fort Wayne, and Paul E. (Kimberly) Stein, of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Fuss. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of over 66 years, H. Eileen Stein, in 2014; brothers, Donald, Victor, Erwin and Louis Stein; sisters, Florence Koester and Elida Mundt.
Funeral service will be 11am Thursday, February 23, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Avenue, Fort Wayne with calling from 9:30am until time of service. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Worship for Shut-ins, or Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
