Paul Martin Refakis, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died Monday, May 16, 2022 at home with his family close by. He was 71. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a businessman who was well known across Allen County.
Born August 13, 1950, Paul graduated from Indiana University and took over his family’s company, Pioneer Supply Inc. Later, he was a commercial real estate broker and owned Monroeville Liquors, which he ran with his wife of 38 years, Gina (Hille) Refakis. Always quick with a smile, hug and warm banter—”you can’t kid a kidder” was one of his favorite sayings—Paul enjoyed being a part of the Monroeville community, where nearly all of his customers have a story about his kindness. He worked at Monroeville Liquors until the day before his death. Paul also had many fond memories of spending time on Crooked Lake in Angola, and was a doting dog owner. He helped raise two loving daughters: Meghan Hamman, of Columbia City, a nurse who bought her dream home on Loon Lake, and Morgan Refakis, of Fort Wayne, a fitness professional who recently returned from Hong Kong. He is survived by four grandchildren: Madison Hamman, Vayda Hamman, Frances Mae Refakis Zennie, and Thomas Martin Refakis Zennie. Madison welcomed Paul’s first great-grandchild, Forest Thomas Foerg, one week after his death. He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter E. Refakis, of Park City, Utah; and his parents, Peter and Evelyn Refakis, of Fort Wayne.
A memorial gathering to honor Paul's memory will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
Memorial donations in his honor may be directed to the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for Paul's family may be shared at www.McCombandSons.com.
