Milt was born in Berne, Indiana, to Susanna and Jacob Liechty, the 6th of 8 children. He attended school in Berne but had to take over the operation of the farm when money became tight. Milt ran the farm as a business and turned it from a losing project into a profitable business enterprise. He went on to work for International Harvest in Fort Wayne and moved up the ranks quickly. IH took him to their international headquarters in Chicago and he became the head of their Sales Engineering Department. Eventually, Milt was relocated back to Fort Wayne where he retired. He never thought that a project was too difficult, but always found a way to make things work.
Milt organized the IH Retirees into a golf group and kept extensive records for each season. He volunteered for BBB, becoming an arbiter to settle disputes. Milt also volunteered for SCORE and counseled people about business plans and starting new businesses. He was very active in his Homeowners Association as well, even helping to rewrite their bylaws.
Milt is survived by his twins: daughter, Linda (John) Elliott of Colorado Springs, CO, and son, Richard (Susan) Liechty of Huntington Beach, CA; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, all of his siblings, and his wife, Carolyn.
In addition to a Memorial Service held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Saturday, October 29th, a second service in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation beginning at 11:30 am, until time of service. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens next to his beloved wife, Carolyn.
