Michael S. Kumfer

Michael S. Kumfer, 74, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Born on June 26, 1947, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Leo and Mary (nee Taylor) Kumfer.
Michael proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Heart medals, and a Presidential Unit Citation. He retired in 2002 from the US Postal Service, after more than 26 years of service as a letter carrier. He was a member of the American Legion Post #499, Fort Wayne, and the Letter Carriers Union Local 116. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Scott) Parrish, Tracy (Jennifer) Kumfer, Kristie (Kenny) Sliger, and Kori (Eric) Meade; siblings, Leo Kumfer Jr., Russell (Dee) Kumfer, and Theresa (Kevin) Arnold; as well as nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren (with two on the way). He was also preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Deborah (nee Kemp) Kumfer; and brothers, Donald and David Kumfer.
A funeral service to honor Michael's life will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, June 17, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior. Calling will also be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the funeral home.
