Max LeRoy Poorman, 101, passed away April 13, 2025, in Palm Beach, Florida. He was born July 12, 1923, in Humboldt, Illinois, the son of Charles L. and Grayce Poorman. Max married the love of his life, Mabel Wolff, on June 2, 1945.
In 1978 he founded and was the owner of Poorman’s Heating and Air Conditioning for 14 years. He was a founding member of North Park Community Church and was a member of The Chapel. Max was past Master of Sol D. Bayless, Masonic Lodge-Scottish Rite, York Rite, Mizpah Shrine, past patron of Eastern Star #432, and was on the board of directors at Taylor University and Turning Point.
Max was a master gardener, and he greatly enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with his family and friends, attending church services and classes, and studying the Bible. He loved to learn, and he always kept busy with projects and new endeavors.
He is survived by his daughters, Arlene (Ron) Emrick of Fort Wayne, IN; Kathryn Picano of West Palm Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Max was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mabel Poorman; son, Gregory Scott Poorman; and brothers, Lynn and John Poorman.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, May 2, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons - Lakeside Park, Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday May 1, 2025, at the funeral home. Entombment at Concordia Gardens Cemetery.
