Mary Sue Ludwig, 99, passed away October 6, 2023 at Towne House Retirement Community of Fort Wayne, IN. She was born November 28, 2023 in Bloomington, IN, the daughter of W. Erwin and Elna Taylor. She was so proud of growing up in a university community and loved her home at 705 S. Fess that her father had built in 1927. She remained close to 3 of her childhood friends throughout her life, 2 of them surviving well into their 90’s with her.
She graduated from University High School in Bloomington in 1942 and earned her Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1946. She was a member of First Christian Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sustaining Group for Fort Wayne Art League, and life member of the I.U Alumni Association.
Mary Sue Taylor married Charles “Bud” Richard Ludwig on September 8, 1946 after he returned from serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater. They moved to Fort Wayne after he graduated from IU on the GI Bill and took a job with Wolf & Dessauer Department Store. She worked with Peter Ekrich as an executive assistant until her first child was born in 1950. She then became a homemaker.
Mary Sue was an avid seamstress, mostly self-taught, and enjoyed making professional quality clothes for her family and herself. Nothing would drive her to distraction more than store-bought clothes that were cheaply constructed or where the pattern of the material did not match on the seams!
She loved her family unconditionally and always tried to do the best for them. She was the one who kept everything running on schedule and everyone well fed. She also tried to look beyond her family to the larger community through her work with the Fort Wayne Art League and the National Panhellenic Conference, which she served out of her enjoyment as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Her loving husband Bud Ludwig passed away on April 22, 2000.
Mary Sue is currently survived by her children: Stephen R (Louise) Ludwig of Fort Wayne; George W (Diana) Ludwig of Schaumburg, IL; and Sue Ann (Timothy W) Burchill of Noblesville, IN; her four grandchildren Zachary J (Gabriela Coya) Burchill of Brooklyn, NY, Andrew T (Kelly) Burchill of Tempe, AZ, Abigail E Burchill of Bloomington, IN, and Alexa F Ludwig of Schaumburg, IL; her step-grandchildren Sabrina M Kozerski of Carpentersville, IL and Kayla R Kozerski of Elgin, IL; and her 3 step-great-grandchildren Ariah, Aliannah, and Ayani.
