

Mary Frances L. (nee Phillips) Jones, 90, died on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was one of eight children and the sole surviving child of Joseph and Elizabeth Phillips. Born in Ironton, Ohio, she moved to Fort Wayne in 1944. In 1950, she married Charles Jones; he preceded her in death in 1988.
She worked as the office manager of two medical practices in Fort Wayne and in later years as office assistant to Dr. William Tropmann. She also worked for several years with her husband (who was the sole proprietor and ran the funeral home briefly after his death) at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home. She loved to travel and two of her most memorable journeys were a road trip to Maine with Neil and a visit to Israel with Ann. She loved poetry and studying foreign languages. She volunteered in many organizations throughout her life, believing that actions effect great change. She was strong in her faith. In the last years of her life, she was cared for by the devoted staff of Woodview Nursing Home.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Jones (Stephen) Ramsey of Fairfield, Conn. and Jennifer Jones of New York City; and her 'adopted' son, Neil Newhard.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Lindenwood Cemetery, with calling from noon to 2 p.m at C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Mary L. Jones to The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, 3411 Sherman Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46808.
