She was born January 2, 1919, in Wellington, IL to Thomas and Cecil (Harrell) Snipes. She married Melvin F. Clapper September 27, 1941 in Shelbyville, IN. Melvin died March 29, 2000.
Mary was an avid gardener wherever she lived, an excellent cook, especially known for her homemade pies, a voracious reader, and an experienced creative seamstress. She loved God and her family, the most important aspects of her life. She will be remembered with great fondness and sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by four children: daughters Barbara (Val) Gilstrap of Thompsons, TX; Janeen (Jay) Miller of Grove Hill, AL; Melanie (Joe) Cloutier of Terre Haute, IN; and son, Douglas (Chun Ying) Clapper of Fort Wayne, IN. Surviving sisters include: Juanita Anderson of Bradenton, FL; Phyllis McFarland of New Castle, IN and Nancy Riley of Wapecong, IN. She had 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, two sisters, Flodell Haskett and Jane Ferguson, four brothers, Thomas, Lewis, Rudy, and Fred Snipes. and one great-grandson preceded her in death.
Funeral will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne, IN with calling one hour prior to services; Rev. D. Jayson Miller of Ft. Meade, MD, US Army (CW2) officiating. Calling hours will also be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, IN.
