I first met Mark while walking the streets daily with his mother and their dog Tumby. He told me it meant handsome boy. They loved my dog and stopped to pet him daily. Then sadly his walk was just him and his dog. Then my dogs became 2 and his was now Tumby2. The walks continued and my dogs became 2 other dogs and he now walked behind Packard. Then I too walked the streets with my grandson and our conversations became more and more about life not just dogs. My dogs would always bark when Mark and Packard passed by. We would watch them continue down the road. Now he again is walking with his many dogs and mother on a beautiful road paved with his gentleness and kindness and I will forever miss my friend.  My thoughts go out to his sister Anne, who he talked about often.

I was so sorry to hear of his passing.  I first took care of him through Meijer Pharmacy. He had been coming to us there for many years and then I found out that he became a member of Holy Cross when I would see him there occasionally.  We would say hello and chat. He was such a nice and kind man and I will miss him.

You probably not sure who we are but our children went to Zion School and Mr & Mrs Hennig were there teachers.  The contribution they did for our school will never be forgotten. Mark was a very kind person. He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. He was a caring man who I will miss very much. 

My family has many fond memories of Mark.   Sharing a Sunday dinner that his mom made, or Mark outside barbecuing, while my daughter was playing with Toby in the yard while we caught up on our lives.     These are just some of the great memories that I have.    

 In recent years, all our conversations over lunch when I’d come back to town and the solemn moments we shared visiting his parents’ grave site, I will not forget.

Deepest sympathies to Anne, James, and all of Mark’s family and close friends with his sudden and unexpected passing. Mark was a kind and good hearted soul-a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He dearly loved his family and friends and his devotion and loyalty to them and his Christian roots and faith never wavered.  I will always feel honored to have met him. His tenacious courage and perseverance to face the many “ slings and arrows “ life threw him on his journey, will always be an inspiration to me and many others. His bright smile, easy laughter, and gentle spirit will be greatly missed. I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye, but find comfort and hope we’ll meet again soon on that Beautiful Shore. My best memories of Mark include his kind, gentle ways to everyone, his smile and the light in his eyes.  Mark could run like the wind and I remember how proud his Dad was when he talked of Mark's speed.  I was one year behind Mark at Zion Lutheran School and was privileged to have his Dad as my 8th grade teacher.    His family made a big impact on me and many.  Rest in peace, Mark.  You have finished the race and now you have the crown of everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord!

I lived across the street from Mark and we did so much together as kids. My favorite story is Mark and I driving his brother Bob’s VW to Mexico. We spent a week in Mexico City and another week in Acapulco.  I lost touch with Mark over the years, but our good times will last forever. My prayers to Anne and family.
