Marilyn Salon was one of the most interesting and kind people I had met when working with her as a service person in Fort Wayne.   When I was younger Dr. Joel had seen me.  Like so many others, my parents really liked the Salons.  I was in my teens those years.  Many, many years later I was so honored to be able to serve her.  She was always up to speed with current events, the news, politics.
 
It was always interesting to have conversations with Marilyn.  She was so smart, and knew how to ask tough, direct questions yet had a polite way of doing it.  She could carve you up if she really wanted to or did not believe in you.  She was loyal and had good street smarts.  Her family, all accomplished in their own lives, really were so good at protecting her, watching out for her interests at all times.  This clearly showed how much she loved them and vice versa.

We were both pro tennis fans and Marilyn really knew the pro tournament schedules and players.  So we had a couple of trips to watch the Indianapolis Clay Court championships in Indy together, one with her grandson who was so much fun to be around on that trip.  

So like many others who have great comments and memories of Marilyn, I consider myself lucky and honored to have met her, some of her family.  She was a good soul and will continue on positively in so many people she touched, as well obviously for the known and unknown good deeds she did naturally and with good intentions for others.

The Nolan family sends their condolences on your loss. Marilyn was a vivacious woman with a zest for life. I have several fun memories of driving Marilyn and my mom to a play at IPFW or the Philharmonic in recent years. She was such a confident woman who spoke her mind. I loved those rides and know my mom will miss her friend.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you. 

I remember your mom Marilyn for making me smile and laugh. I knew both of your parents from St. Joe Hospital, the neighborhood, and tennis at the Ft. Wayne Country Club with my mom Neva Nill. She was a great lady.

We remember Marilyn's warm longstanding friendship toward us. She and Joel were part of a special generation that contributed so meaningfully to the community they called home. We were among the fortunate recipients of that generous presence.

Marilyn was my guardian angel one day at St. Joseph Hospital.  I believe she was volunteering when I brought my youngest son, Austin into ER with a detached tip of his pinky finger after Alex  accidentally slammed his finger in the bathroom door.  I raced down Fairfield even going illegally down a one way street with his hand wrapped in a towel.  She saw us enter ER,  grabbed my son and stayed with him while they stitched the tip back on and told me not to worry she would stay with him.  I hope I thanked you Marilyn.  You were a take charge person.

I never  meet your Mother in person but I was a patience of your Father Dr Joel,  I  became a type 1 diabetic in my teenage year and had the pleasure of having your Dad take me on as one of his patience. When ever I needed to contact him after hours Your mother was always so sweet and kind.  Your father was amazing and always helpful helping me dealing with my illness. Your  Dad was at my side with my husband on each of my delivers of my 3 children. I names my daughter after him  Joelle . I remember the nurse saying he cried when he told her that baby was named after me. I wish your family well and will hope that you find comfort that your parents are together again. I thank you for both of them they saved my life several times . I would not be here today without them In my life.  

As a daughter-in-law of Marilyn Salon, I would like to add some thoughts about my mother-in-law.  First and foremost, she was the rock of the Salon home.  She totally supported her husband, Joel W Salon, MD in all his endeavors.  Then she proceeded to raise three successful men, Joel M. Salon DDS, MD(JoAnn); Scott W. Salon, PhD.(Nancy) and Jeffrey E. Salon, MD,(Maryam).  She enjoyed watching her five grandchildren grow into adulthood, Alyson Marlin(Marc); Melissa Tone(Joe): William Salon(Anya); Nathan Salon and Yas Salon.  And she delighted in her great grandchildren- Rory, Zoe, Finley, Jonah and Elliot.

Marilyn was active in the Ft. Wayne community. She was President of the PTA at Harrison Hill Junior High School.  She was a Cub Scout den mother as well.  She volunteered at the soup kitchen and Congregation Achduth Vesholom. She also was an active member of the Junior League of Ft. Wayne.  She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing at the Ft. Wayne Country Club. In her later years she become an excellent bridge player.  She was honored by the Ft. Wayne Food Bank for her support.  



Marilyn was a woman of intelligence, beauty, grace and spirit.  I will miss her.
