Marcella A. Gerig

Mrs. Marcella A. Gerig of Berne, formerly of Ft Wayne, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born March 7, 1911 in Berne to David P. Sommer and Adela (Sprunger) Sommer and married Dennis D. Gerig on August 18, 1934 in Ft. Wayne. They enjoyed almost 73 years of marriage before the passing of Dennis in 2007. They lived in Ft Wayne all of their married life prior to their move to Swiss Village in 1998. Marcella was a life long member of the First Missionary Church in Ft. Wayne and a long time volunteer at Lutheran Hospital after her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Lou and Larry, and three brothers. She is survived by sons, Monte (Betty Jo) of Odessa, Texas, Rodney (Marayat), of Colorado Springs, Colo; sister, Edith Carrington, of East Lansing, MI; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service is 12:00pm Friday, February 18, 2011 at Klaehn, Fahl and Melton, Winchester Rd Chapel, 6424 Winchester Rd. with calling 1 hr prior to service. Interment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Swiss Village in Berne or First Missionary Church in Ft.
