Mable Irene "Mickey" Luken

Mable Irene (Cottrill) Luken (93) died peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2014 while visiting her daughter in Ft. Wayne.
Affectionately known as Mickey, she was born in Howe, IN on November 18, 1920 to parents Charles I. Cottrill and Eva Eloise "Jones" Cottrill.
Mickey is survived by her children: Rodey Webb (Dave), Hilton Head Island; Pat McDougall (Joe), Ft. Wayne, IN, Kathy Schenkel (George), Fremont, IN; Laurie Horn (Dean), Fenton, MI; Lenny Luken, Brunswick, GA; Lisa Geller (Jeff), Huntington, IN; and 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; also surviving are her sister Gretchen Myers of Sturgis, MI and sister-in-law Edith Cottrill Scott.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard B. Luken, who died on August 2, 2014 after 71 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Kaye Lorraine Luken, a brother Albert Lee Cottrill, sister Ruth Weick Gaffer and grandson Joshua Webb.
In 1942 she graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing as a registered nurse and was supervisor of the OB floor at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.
Leo and Mickey taught ballroom dancing in their home for 23 years while raising their six children. Mickey was an accomplished golfer winning ten tournaments on the senior golfers group in Myrtle Beach.
After Leo retired in 1982, they moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL. In 2003 they moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where they resided until their deaths.
A memorial service will be held at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Center Road, Ft. Wayne, IN on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 4pm, with calling one hour prior.
