LILLIAN ELIZABETH (ROMER) BERTZ, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her family and faith in God always came first and her husband was the love of her life. They were married for 71 years and were very much in love. Born Sept. 20, 1928, in Royersford, Pa., she was a daughter of John and Anna Romer. Lillian was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 58 years. She graduated from Royersford High School with Honors and was offered an Art Scholarship with the Institute of Fine Art in New York City. She worked for North American Insurance Company and Dale Carnegie Corporation. In her early career, she co-authored English Textbooks, was a Freelance writer for Women's Wear Daily, and an avid and accomplished painter. Lillian and Ken were also the proprietors of the Country House Fashions women's, teens, and children's clothing stores.
Lillian is loved and survived by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth Barton Bertz; daughter, Holly Bertz of San Diego, Calif.; son, Christopher Bertz of Fort Wayne; grandsons, Alexander Bertz of Fort Wayne and Nicholas (Stephanie) Bertz of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Avery Bertz; sister-in-law, Juanita Romer; nieces, Wanda Yates and Fay Pletcher; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Romer; sister, Marion Kerr; and brothers, Robert Romer and John Romer.
Lillian was misdiagnosed with pneumonia and succumbed from COVID-19 on June 5, 2020. "She would tell you to fight and do not give up." Given the public health restrictions of COVID-19, a celebration of life will be held at future date when circumstances allow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Messiah Lutheran Church or COVID-19 research.
