IN THE CARE OF
Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home
Leroy Stanley “Stan” Whippo, 94, died peacefully on October 14, 2021. Born December 3, 1926, in Wilkinsburg, PA, he was the son of Roy and Ruth (Bagshaw) Whippo. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Stan worked for US Steel prior to early retirement, and, always with a servant’s heart, worked for Luther House in Cleveland, Ohio and for Lutheran Home/Lutheran Life Villages after moving to Fort Wayne in 1987. Stan cared for others by recording textbooks for the visually impaired, reading newspapers on air (with radio partner Fran Headings) at NEIRRS, shepherding seminarians via the Indiana Kentucky Synod’s (LCA/ELCA) Ministry Committee, and by volunteering 5-7 days a week for classical music radio station WBNI. He finally retired at age 92 after more than three decades of programming.
He was the devoted husband (56 yrs) of Eileen J. (Carroll) Whippo, father of Kathleen W. (Matthew D.) Haller; and grandfather of Lauren, Anna, and Jon. He was predeceased by his wife; parents; and sister, Barbara Losa. The grateful recipient of exemplary care from the staff of Lutheran Life Villages, Stan gave and received the respect due every human being. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, October 23, 2021 in the nave of Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 W. Washington Blvd, Fort Wayne. The family asks that all attending wear masks. Following the service and weather permitting, Stan’s family will greet attendees in Trinity’s Cloister Garden. Memorials may be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Please visit www.klaehnfahlmeltonfunerals.com to leave condolences.
