LAWRENCE L. "The LEGEND" BROST, 69, of Fort Wayne, died on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at his residence. Born Aug. 17, 1942, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Arthur and Cecilia Brost. He was President of Stone - Street Quarries from 1983 until his retirement in 2008; he worked at Western Indiana Aggregates, Lafayette from 1965 to 1973; and was V.P. of Operations at May Stone & Sand, where he worked from 1973 to 1986. He graduated from Ambia High School, Ambia, Ind., in 1960. He then graduated from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind., 1963. He went on to get his Civil Engineering degree from Purdue University. He served as President of Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association in 1994. He received the Keystone Award in 2005 from IMAA and was inducted into the IMAA Hall of Fame in 2009. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and Fraternal order of the Elks. "He loved his family, his many friends, and the game of golf." Surviving are his wife, Millie; daughters, Tricia (Nate) McCrillis of Noblesville and Stacy (Tony) Amstutz of Fort Wayne; son, Nik Brost of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew and Kaitlyn Amstutz, Quinten and Anastasia McCrillis; brothers, Ron (Nancy) Brost of Otterbein, Gerry (Phyllis) Brost of Lafayette, John (Cheryl) Brost of Oxford, and Rick Brost of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Mary Brost of Lafayette; brother-in-law, Mike Hardebeck of Earl Park, Ind.; and 23 nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Daine Hardebeck; and brother, Jim Brost. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at the corner of Reed and Trier Roads. The Rev. Father Anthony Steinacker officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with Rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dunning ton, Ind. Preferred memorials for Masses or to St. Peter's Lutheran School Building Fund.
