Joyce L. Broughton, age 98, flew home to be with her Savior Jesus early on Monday morning, April 4, 2022. An amazing lady, through her charm, her wit, and her independent spirit, Joyce brought smiles to the faces of all who met her.
Joyce was born on December 14, 1923, daughter of Saul and Zettie nee Harper Lindquist. She grew up and spent most of her adult life in Rockford, IL, where she and her husband Cecil A. Broughton worked for many years as successful and respected small business owners. Predeceased by her husband in 1977, Joyce moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1998 to be near a married daughter and her family. Joyce was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, and later of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church there.
The Lord blessed Joyce with a large and loving family. From Joyce and Cecil’s three children, here is how the family grew: Daughter Jan and her husband Dan Gilbert have two daughters and two sons. These four, with their dear spouses, are the parents altogether of twenty-one. Son Jack A. Broughton crossed over to his heavenly home in 2018. He and his dear wife Annie added two sons and one daughter. These three with their spouses added seven more to the next generation. Daughter Jill with husband Al Rodenbeck are the parents of two sons and a daughter, and grandparents to six more in the Broughton family clan. Grandma Joyce altogether was mother of three, grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of thirty-four delightful and talented honeys ranging in age from 19 years to four months old.
She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who have loved and valued her presence in their lives.
Early on, Grandma Joyce was duly and rightfully named by her second generation, a Great Lady. We love her deeply, delighted in her presence, and thank the Lord for the gift she has been to us for so many years.
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son Jesus, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. This was the faith of Grandma Joyce, and by God’s grace, of all who will follow when He calls us home as well. We rejoice as we look forward to the resurrection reunion with her, with Great-grandpa Cecil and Uncle Jack, and with all our dear ones departed in the faith – there in the presence of our Savior and King. Amen!
