Jon Wayne Smith

Jon Wayne Smith, 78, of Fort Wayne passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Parkview Home Health and Hospice. Jon was born September 21, 1945 in Huntington to Fred and Anetta (Bartrom) Smith. Jon was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was employed with Howard Martin Trucking and was often the first to arrive and the last to leave. Jon wanted things his way and could be a little grouchy if it wasn’t. He would do anything for anyone and was often seen riding his scooter around the neighborhood picking up garbage. He enjoyed country music, Jon Wayne movies fishing and traveling. Especially when they had a cabin in Michigan and they would spend about two weeks annually in the Upper Peninsula. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He married Christine Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine; son, Christopher (Carissa) Smith; daughter, Wendy (Michael) Teders; six grandchildren, Shaun, Kira, Heather, Alexi, Brittney, and Richie; six great grandchildren, Conner, Isabell, Hadley, Scarlet, Benji and Yuan; two sisters, Peg Stahl and Jean (Don) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Jan Smith. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835. Memorial donations in Jon’s name may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
