Jon Lee Hurley, 71, a lifetime resident of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on September 12th, 2023. He was born November 23, 1951, to the late Paula Elson and Richard Lee Hurley; the eldest of three siblings. Jon attended Trinity Lutheran School, Franklin Middle School, and graduated a proud Northside High Redskin in 1970. Following high school, Jon enlisted in the United States Navy and fought in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1977. The friends and memories that Jon made during these years stayed with him for a lifetime.
Upon returning to the United States, Jon joined his father's startup business, Hurley's Wood Refinishing. Following the death of his father in 1990, Jon assumed control and helped Hurley's achieve over six decades in business until Jon semi-retired in April 2023. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every piece he worked on.
In 1984, Jon purchased a house on Bass Road; a property where Jon would raise his three children, Paul Jon, Sarah Kathryn, and Clark Edward Hurley. This property also provided the future site of Hurley's Wood Refinishing, where it has remained, for a memorable 39 years.
Jon was a people person. He used his restored Cabin Cruiser to provide great times to family and friends; and transformed an early 1900's barn into the "Party Barn" that held extraordinary gatherings throughout the 80's and 90's.
Jon took great pride earning his Black Belt later in life.
Jon found immense joy in simple pleasures. He loved his daily routine and you could set your watch by him. You could often find him working in his yard, cooking on the grill, handing out fudgesicles to his grandkids, telling jokes, having a beer with his friends at the Eagles or Saturday breakfast with his crew at Hall's.
Jon was lucky enough to find a friend in his final year that also stayed by his side until the end.
Jon is survived by his children Paul Hurley, Sarah Hurley and Clark Hurley; grandkids, Akella (Paul) Hurley, Beckett (Paul) Hurley and Liam (Clark) Hurley; and sisters, Suzette Rodriguez and Tamara Macke.
