On Saturday, April 13, 2024, John Patrick Norman (66), of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away at his home. John, born on February 18, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana, was the eldest son of James J. and Patricia A. Norman of North Manchester, Indiana. John is survived by his sons Patrick (29) and Malyck (16), father James Norman, siblings, Beth (Norman) Becker (Tim), James “Sam” Norman, Nancy Norman (Ed Buis) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
John graduated from Wawasee High School in 1976 and joined the United States Army in 1983, where he was a Paratrooper and a Ranger. During John’s service in the United States Arm, he was awarded the following: Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Army Achievement Medal; Army Commendation Medal (1at Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Good Conduct Medal (1st Award); 2nd Class Badge (Grenade); Expert Badge (Rifle); Air Force Achievement Medal. John was released from active duty in 1987 with an honorable character of service.
John was a talented fabricator of woodworking, building numerous pieces of beautiful wood furniture. He also built Pontiac Fieros, one of which was on the cover of High-Tech Performance magazine, Kit Car Magazine, AmCare Magazine and Hot Rod Magazine and featured articles about cars John built. His cars were also National Champions 2 years running.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Advantage Funeral Home, 2403 East Wallen Rd, Ft. Wayne, Indiana 46825 from 9-11 am, followed by a Military Honors Ceremony at 1 pm at the National Cemetery at 1700 East 38th St., Marion, Indiana 46953.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the support of Jon’s minor child; checks can simply be made payable to Lake City Bank, with the beneficiary being Malyck Norman, and delivered 302 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
