John served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Okinawa. He received his Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. John married Carol West on June 17, 1960 and she survives. He taught at St. Joe Center Elementary school and many others, retiring in 1984. John was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Wayne. He loved art, music, humor, poetry, history and philosophy. Surviving are his children, Christa (Felicia) Cartwright. John was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm at the First Christain Church (4800 South Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne) on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Visitation we be on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home (6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne) from 2pm to 6pm. Private burial in Lindenwood Cemetery immediately following the service.
