John Creighton Cartwright loved his family, God, and traveling. He passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Born in Celina, Ohio, on July 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Margaret Karch Cartwright.
John was a graduate of Celina High School, attended Ohio Wesleyan University, and spent most of his career in insurance sales. He was a man sharp of wit and quick of tongue, he was also excellent in both checkers and trivia. He was an avid railroad fan and could stare at trains endlessly—for hours at a time. He could read every word written within a museum. His superpower was the ability to fall asleep at family functions.
His smartest decision was to marry Diann Bentz in January of 1967, and have two children. He is survived by his loving wife; son, Jeffrey (Lydia) Cartwright of Huntington, IN; daughter, Deborah (Luke) lwanowicz of Winchester, VA; and three grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally—Jared Cartwright, Alexander and Amelia lwanowicz. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and a 50-year member of Roanoke Masonic Lodge #195 and Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne.
A funeral service to honor John's life and legacy will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 W. Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling from 10:00 am, until time of service. He will be laid to rest, with Masonic Rites, at Glenwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Roanoke, Indiana.
Memorial donations in his honor may be directed to Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Network. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for John's family may be shared at www.McCombandSons.com.
