John Joseph Cains, 78, of Fort Wayne passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 17, 1944 to the late Eugene and Eleanora (Alter) Cains. John served in the United States Navy from 1962-1968 as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. He had worked for GTE, later retiring after several years of service. John was a devoted member to St. Mark Lutheran Church for over 49 years. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was an official for the Komets hockey for 26 years. Besides his passion for the Komets he enjoyed taking cruises with his family. John is survived by his wife, Kay (Thiele) Cains; sons, Michael (Andrea) and Christopher Cains; grandchildren, Abigail and Camille Cains; brother, Donald Cains; sister, Kathy (Joe) Haines; brother-in-law, Gary Lewellen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in passing by his sister, Gerri Lewellen; and sister-in-law, Ann Cains. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 16, 2023 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 16933 Thiele Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the church. Burial to follow the service at St. Mark Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in John's memory may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church Special Projects or Cemetery Fund.
