Jerry Wayne Hughes Sr., 70, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021 at his home. Born March 24, 1950 in Cowpens, VA, he was a son of the late Joe and Hassie (Teague) Hughes. A graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, Ohio, he furthered his education at IPFW in Fort Wayne. He retired as a corrections officer with Community Corrections after 10 years of service and was the owner of Hughes Appliances for over 15 years. Jerry was an avid Trump supporter and enjoyed boating and being at Waldron Lake with his family and friends. A sports fanatic, he was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers, Miami Dolphins, and Toledo Mud Hens. He is survived by his wife, Sondra Hughes of Fort Wayne; children, Kristy Williams of Fort Wayne, Joseph Hughes of Fort Wayne, Jerry (Michelle) Hughes Jr. of Fort Wayne, Jennifer (Michael) Harris of Fort Wayne, and Johnelle (Ralph) Cowing of Fort Wayne; stepchildren, who fondly referred to Jerry as Dad #2, Amanda (Anthony) Stahl of Fort Wayne, and Joshua (Victoria) Powell of Garrett, IN; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings, Delores (Kenny) Carr and Joe Hughes, both of Toledo, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Jean Lajiness and John Hughes; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Hughes. Celebration of Life is Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Fort Wayne Turners, 3636 Parnell Avenue, Fort Wayne.
