Jeannette Metz

She was a volunteer and member of the Salvation Army for 77 years. She was a bookkeeper for the Salvation Army ARC for 37 years before retiring in 1993. She served as a corps treasurer, Home League Secretary, Sunday school teacher and Girl Guard leader. She had received the “William Booth Award” from the Salvation Army General, the first time a local volunteer had been so honored. She loved serving and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Leon Reynolds, in August of 1975 and her husband of 31 years, William Metz in May of 2011. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children, Larry (Libby) Reynolds and Flora Mae O’Dell both of Columbia City; stepchildren Carol Renier of Hudson, IN, Jerry (Joyce) Metz of Punta Gorda, FL, and Ken (Sue) Metz of New Haven; four grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; fourteen step great grandchildren; two sisters Esther Heinz and Marjorie (Bill) Shannon; one brother Jerry Johnson.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Salvation Army Church, 2901 North Clinton Street, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Visitation hours will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
