Janet E. (Dunten) Scheele, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021 at Apple Ridge Assisted Living/Memory Care. She was born August 23, 1933, in Auburn, Indiana, to the late Bernice and Elmer Dunten. Her family moved to Huntertown and she graduated from Huntertown High School in 1951. She played the drums in the high school band and was involved in 4H and was made 4H Fair Queen. She worked at Lutheran Hospital, on Fairfield Ave, for 24 years before retiring. During their retirement years, they moved up to the lake and also had a place down in Florida. They traveled to Europe and took many cruises. She enjoyed playing cards; especially bridge, euchre, Uno and SkipBo. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing golf, and IU basketball. She especially enjoyed listening to her music, especially Elvis Presley's gospel music and her favorite song by him was "Who am I?” She is survived by daughters, Melody (Dan) Stauffer and Cathy (Ray) Long; grandchildren, Bill (Jessie) Schmitt III, Jennifer Hardwick, and Andy Long; great-granddaughter, Brianna Schmitt; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Willard "Whitey" Scheele; brothers, George and David Dunten; and son in law, William P. Schmitt II. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family asked that if you would like, memorials can be given to either NIDAC (Northeast Indiana Deaf Awareness Council) or a Hospice Organization of your choice. A private interment will be held at a later date at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Family wants to thank everyone that took care of mom in her final months of life.
