James E. Miller, 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday November 13, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born on Wednesday, December 6, 1939, in Fort Wayne he was the son of the late William and Kathryn (Smith) Miller. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne; and proudly served his country in the US Army reserves. Jim proudly served the Fort Wayne community for over 50 years as a funeral director and former owner and founder of Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home; and was a graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1960. “Jim was a very dedicated and loving husband and father, a true gentleman who spent his life in service to others and will be missed by all who knew him.”
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Becky Miller; sons Matthew and Bradley Miller, all of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Gardner.
Funeral service will be 2 pm, Wednesday, November 19, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 2 to 8pm, Tuesday November 18, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, Ossian. Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
