James Eldin Loe Sr., 89, of South Whitley, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Born March 1, 1927 in Larwill, he was a son of the late LeRoy and Mary (Friend) Loe. James proudly served as a Chief Petty Officer and Avionics Technician in the U.S. Navy for 27 years during the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Era. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Naval Reserve Association. He enjoyed fishing and building/restoring hot rods and antique cars. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Loyda) Loe of Columbia City and James (Dawne) Loe Jr. of Holiday, FL; daughter, Lora (Blaine) Gerard of South Whitley; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Harper of Columbia City; and brother, Marvin Loe of Phoenix, AZ. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Flora (Harroff) Loe; sons, Michael and Theodore Loe; and siblings, Robert Loe, Patrick Loe, Larry Loe, Clara Belle Brockman, and Rowena Weeks. James wishes were to be cremated with no services. He will be inurned at sea by his fellow Sailors at a later date.
