Jacob Thomas Miller III, 56, passed away on October 16, 2018 in Chicago, Ill after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his sister, brother-in-law and several friends at his bedside at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. Jacob was born in Lansing, MI. He received his Bachelors of Science from Alma College, and a Master’s Degree of Public Health from St. Louis University. He began his career for the Illinois Department of Public Heath as Associate Administrator. After moving to Chicago, he performed research, quality improvement, and screening for the Perinatal Health Care program. At the University of Illinois at Chicago he was Diagnostic Network Coordinator, and was Perinatal and Technical Assistant for Advocate Illinois Masonic and Rush University Medical Center. Jacob also volunteered for Hospice for over 20 years, was an educational surrogate for state wards, held a certificate in paralegal studies, and was a notary. Jacob enjoyed traveling extensively with friends and made numerous visits to England, Spain, Tanzania, and Tenerife Island, to name a few. He had the gift of hospitality and was well-known for reaching out to family members. He made many special friendships in his own high rise community by serving on the social and security committees. Surviving are his sister, Lissa Page Miller Koenig; Brother-in-law, Jeff Koenig; and nieces, Page Griffith and Brooke Griffith. He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Thomas Miller Jr. MD, and mother Jane Greene Miller. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park, 1320 E. Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46825. Calling hours will also be Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Horizon Hospice in Chicago, Ill.
