Gerry Leroy Lydy, 81, passed away at home with his family by his side on August 19, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents Velda P (Bauman) and Walter A Lydy, and his nephew, Christopher Lydy.
Gerry was born April 20th, 1942, in Allen County, Fort Wayne, IN where he lived most of his life. Gerry attended Arcola High School, went to Purdue University and proudly served in the Navy. In recognition of his service, he was honored and blessed to go on Honor Flight # 37. He retired from Magnavox after 39 years and joined his wife in Real Estate. While at Magnavox, he was proud to have worked on the first night vision goggles. Gerry was very active in the Arcola Lions Club and enjoyed volunteering his time at the Johnny Appleseed festival corn booth and the Arcola Tractor pull. He was a proud member of the Magnavox Quarter Century Club and Pine Valley Country Club.
Gerry is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia L. (Mills) of 57 years, and his twin daughters Pamela (Steve) Schultz and Paula (Scott) Kube who were his pride and joy as well as his adored grandchildren, Kyle (Lauren) Kube, Mason Schultz, and Myah Kube.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Lydy, brother Bruce (Kathleen) Lydy, sister Vicki (David) Haidle, sister in law Peggy Mills, nieces and nephews: Wendy (Christopher) Lydy, Kenny (Tara) Lydy, Kevin (Brittnee) Lydy, Heidi (Erik) Moore, Ben Haidle, Casey Haidle, Jeremy Haidle, Laura (Michael) Suarez, Amy Allison, Julie (Michael) Willhite, Andy (Shonda) Ankenbruck, and David (Heather) Ankenbruck as well as 30 great nieces and nephews and 2 great, great nieces and 1 great, great nephew.
His passion to help anyone at any time, and his warmth and love for family, friends, and neighbors will be missed by all who knew him. He left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness.
Visitation will be at D.O. McComb & Sons on Dupont Road on Friday, August 25th 2-4pm and 6-8pm. The Funeral service will be at 10am on August 26th at St. John’s Lutheran Church Lake Twp on Cook Road with visitation beginning at 9am. Burial will be at Eel River Cemetery immediately following. The church will host a luncheon immediately following internment.
