Gerald H. Hegge

Gerald “Jerry” Hegge, 77, of Fort Wayne died on August 2, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the Wallace and Mae Hegge, he was born on October 30, 1934 in Oregon, Wisconsin. He attended Oregon High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. In the late 1950’s, he moved to Muncie, Indiana where he met his wife, Rosemarie (Jackson). They were married on May 7, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muncie, IN. In 1974, they moved to Fort Wayne, IN where he resided until his death. Jerry as a manager for Servamation for over 25 years and later worked for Essex in Columbia City for nearly 10 years. Jerry loved hunting for bargains, particularly at garage sales. He was the “master of the art of making a deal” and loved to tinker with the electronics he purchased. He was an avid metal detector who spent many a peaceful afternoon finding treasures. Jerry also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Jerry was a faithful Catholic who was very involved in his church through lectoring, distributing communion, and serving on various boards and committees at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muncie and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. Most recently, he was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church Fort Wayne before moving to reside at St. Anne Retirement Home. Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 52 years, Rosemarie, and his children, Barbara (Jeff) Harty, Timothy Hegge, Thomas (Ashley) Hegge, Beth (John) Minick, and Jennifer (Steve) Schuhmacher ,16 grandchildren, his sister, Joan Wethal, his brothers John (Marlys) Hegge and Richard (Alyce) Hegge of Wisconsin and Wallace (Patricia) Hegge of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by two children, Rose Ellen and Richard Hegge, parents Wallace and Mae Hegge, and his brother, Ronald (Lynn) Hegge. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at St. Jude Catholic Church, E. State at Randallia Dr. in Fort Wayne, IN with viewing at the church one hour before Mass. Burial at Union Cemetery in Eaton, IN with graveside service at 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Masses, St. Anne Home or Women's Care Center.
