George N. Mourad

George N. Mourad, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the home he built. Born and raised in Bloudan, Syria, as a young adult George pursued dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Damascus in civil and architectural engineering. In the 1970’s, George immigrated to the United States to pursue the field of electrical engineering. As a lifelong learner, he attained a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Institute of Technology and a master’s degree from Purdue University, both in electrical engineering.

George’s craftsmanship eventually led him to establishing a new home construction business. For over 25 years, George was successful in his career having constructed numerous, beautiful homes throughout Fort Wayne; however, he always felt that his most significant achievement was his family. The love he had for his family was unwavering. Surviving are his beloved wife of 50 years, Elaine Estefan Mourad; three children, Andre (Dima) Mourad, Mona (Brian) Smith, and Rula Mourad; and six grandchildren.

He leaves behind a sister, Georgette (Richard) Winchell and two brothers, Rimon (Fryal) Mourad and Zuheir Mourad; an extended family of sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nadra and Fadwa Mourad.

In honoring George we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with resilience, sacrifice, and a skill for fixing anything! His legacy lives on in the structures he built in the city and in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. We will carry on the foundation of love that George nurtured within his family.

Funeral service is at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Saint John Chrysostom Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 402 Badiac Road. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at the church, with Trisagion Prayers at 7:45 p.m. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery.
