George William “Pete” Motz, 96, was called home Thursday morning to rejoin Barbara, his wife of 72 years. Motz proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Pete was born in Fort Wayne on Oct. 20, 1916, to the late John Gustav and Clara (nee. Weseman) Motz. After serving his country, Pete joined Canfield Lumber where he remained until his retirement in 1982.
Pete is survived by his daughters Nancy Marie (Donald) Greenstein of Bayview, Texas; Linda Kay (Larry) Baker of Pearland, Texas; and Jennifer Lee Gray of Fort Wayne. He also leaves behind his sister Ruth Huntington of Fort Wayne, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers.
Pete’s life will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday, March 4, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1505 Bethany Lane, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to service, at the church. Calling will also be from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, March 3, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne Street, Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
