George "Dave" Mason Sr.

George "Dave" Mason, Sr., 80, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018. Born in Columbia City, Indiana, Dave was the son of the late Henry and Ellen Mae Mason. Dave worked for GE for 35 years. He gave over 50 years of service to the community of New Haven as a Fireman. He served as Fire Chief for 23 years, prior to his retirement. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven FOE Aerie 3164, IVFA. Dave enjoyed being outdoors fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Dave and his wife enjoyed their winters in Florida. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Barbara Mason of Fort Wayne; children George (Deb) Mason, Jr., Steven (Kelli) Mason both of New Haven; grandchildren, Jacob (Samantha) Mason, Brittany (Mark) Gerber, Ashley (Justin) Sarrazin, Courtney Mason, Kiersten Nichter, Madison Nichter, Bryce Mason, Paige Mason; five great-grandchildren with a set of twins on the way; sister, Rose (Tony) Cotterman of Fort Wayne; along with many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his siblings Dorothy Lott, Florence Smith, Mary Patterson, Gertrude Mason, Henry and Jim Mason. Service is 11:00 am, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior, Rev. David Stecker officiating. Calling at the funeral home Wednesday, May 2, 2018, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a Fireman Service at 7:30 pm. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery New Haven, New Haven, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven Adams Township Fire Department.
