FRED L. GEYER JR., 85, went to his Heavenly Reward on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011. Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Huntington, he was the son of Fred L. Geyer Sr. and Mary Fern Geyer. He grew up in Huntington, along with his sister, Avonnelle Stoops of Fort Wayne, and later moved to Tulsa, Okla. He married Pauline C. Michaud of Berne in August of 1951. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy, from which he was honorably discharged as a 3rd class Petty Officer radio operator in 1946. The following two years, he attended Purdue University and two more years at Huntington University (formerly Huntington College). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He taught Math and Science at Petroleum High School, Geneva High School, and Fort Wayne Community Schools for a total of 16 years. He received his Master's Degree and post graduate credits from Ball State University in 1956. In 1960, he founded Geyer Instructional Aids Co., Inc., which was an educational catalog supply business. This company provided math and science teaching aids for Jr./Sr. high schools across the country. He served as its president until his death. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of Huntington University in 1980 and served Emeritus status until the time of his death. In 1996, he received the Huntington University Centennial Medallion, signifying him as one of the 100 individuals who have made an impact on Huntington University over the 100 years of its existence. He was further awarded an honorary doctorate from Huntington University. He was an active member of First Missionary Church of Fort Wayne for 52 years. Surviving are his wife; children, Alan (Cathy) Geyer and Marcia (James) Spangle, both of Fort Wayne; and granddaughters, Jessica Bowden and Valerie Bowden. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister. "Our Fred was a loving husband, doting grandfather, and exemplary Christian role model to his children. He was a generous and Godly man who led by his quiet strength. He will be deeply missed." Service is 11 a.m. Monday at First Missionary Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev.
