Forrest joined Wayman Chapel A.M.E Church at an early age. He was the eldest of four children. He attended Wayman Chapel Elementary and Camden Academy High School. Forrest left home at the age of 19 seeking a better life. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he worked various jobs to care for his family. There he met Luther Mae “Sweet” Davis, and after a short, intense courtship, they married. To this union was added 12 children: 7 boys and 5 girls.
Forrest moved his family to Chicago, IL, in 1958, where he accepted a job at E.L. Knight Construction Company as a carpenter. He quickly moved up to the head foremen position until he retired. After retirement, he moved to Gadsen, AL, where he joined New Born A.O.H Church. He remained a member there until he returned to Fort Wayne, IN, and joined the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Mozell Davis Sr. Forrest was a faithful member until his health started to decline. He loved being in church.
Forrest made his transition on April 13, 2022, at Parkview Randallia Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Gwendolyn and Martha; daughters, Joyce, Edna and Jacquline; sons, Danny and Clinton, and one son still missing, Roger Lee Henry; a step-son, Jessie; three grandchildren, Tyrone, Walter and April; and a great-grandchild, Sha-Ryia; second wife, Annie Waiters Henry. He leaves to cherish his memory 4 sons, Forrest Henry Jr. of Chicago, IL, Carl DeLawrence Henry, Anthony (Connie) Henry, Terrell Maurice Henry, all of Fort Wayne; 2 daughters, Frances Lee (Dexter) Kelley of Fort Wayne, Lorrieta Shelton (Frederick) of Chicago, IL; 1 sister, Millie Lee Johnson of St. Louis, MO, his first wife, Luther Mae Henry of Fort Wayne; 4 step-children, Sharon “Shanta”, Erick and Adrian Nobel; 35 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, nephews and friends, as well Forrest's special friend, Big Paul.
A funeral service to honor his memory will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Tree of Life Baptist Church, 520 E. Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, with a calling to begin at 10:00am, one hour prior to the service. Forrest will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home.
