Ernestine Ann Weiss, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Parkview Memorial Hospital. Born October 17, 1938 in Detroit, she was a daughter of the late Carlton and Lydia (Perry) Payne. Ernestine was a Pre-School/Kindergarten Teacher for over 42 years having taught at Bethlehem Lutheran, Noah’s Ark, Prince of Peace, Messiah Lutheran, Suburban Bethlehem and most recently St. Paul Lutheran School, from which she retired in 2001. Ernestine was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over 40 years where she assisted in Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and participated in preparing funeral dinners. She was also a member of New Century Home Demonstration Club, County Officer with Purdue Extension Homemakers, Officer with Ludwig Park Association, Northwest Neighborhood Association, and Bible Study Fellowship. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Frederick Weiss of Fort Wayne; daughters, Michelle (Douglas) Hoag of Joliet, IL, and Cheryl (Joe) Shaw of Fort Wayne; sons, Paul (Jill) Weiss of Schaumburg, IL., and Andrew (Julie) Weiss of Fort Mill, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Kaufman of Bassett, VA.; and brother-in-law, Jerry Peludat of Daytona Beach, FL. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Payne; and sister, Carol Peludat. Funeral Service will be Monday, August 8, 2016 at 11:00am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior; Rev. Doug Croucher officiating. Calling will also be Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or to Worship for Shut-Ins.
