Ellen (Perkins) Anderson was born to Louis and Dorothy Perkins, in Easton, Maryland Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, October 28, 1946. She was a graduate of Centreville HS (1964) Strayer College in Baltimore (1965) and Lakeland College in Illinois (1973). In her early career she was the first employee of Chesapeake College in 1966 and next worked for Lakeland College in Illinois. During this time, she met and married her husband Gilbert Anderson and moved with him to Kokomo, Indiana in 1975. There she served as executive assistant to the director of St Joseph Hospital until her retirement. She was active on several committees and boards including Kokomo Symphonic Society, Howard County Historical Society and Mental Health Society, Hospital Cheer Guild, Academy of Women, and also received honors for Excellence in Volunteerism.
In 2002, both Gil & Ellen retired and moved back to Maryland, settling in the historic village of Oxford. There Ellen served as curator of the Oxford Museum, and President of the Oxford Community Center. She also served on the board of the Historical Society of Talbot County. They enjoyed retirement through entertaining visitors and becoming world travelers, while routinely exploring the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Ellen was an avid cook and loved to practice hospitality. Her house was furnished with cherished antiques. She was a history buff and enjoyed preserving historical items for use and display. She also loved movies, music, and sharing good times with friends. She was always very active in the Episcopal Church, St. Andrews in Kokomo, and Holy Trinity Church in Oxford, and St. Alban's in Ft. Wayne. She was a Vestry member, served on the board of Episcopal Church Women and regularly volunteered for committees and events.
Ellen was a dearly loved wife and stepmother, and loved her Eastern Shore heritage, family, and Maryland history. She lived a life of service to God and the community. Ellen passed into eternity with her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 18th, 2022. She is preceded in death by her sister Kay and brother John Perkins. She is survived by her husband Gilbert W. Anderson, daughter Cara Wallace, son Dane (Dawn) Anderson, and grandchildren, Ethan, Jonas, and Kristina; as well as niece Jennifer (Ritchy), Eason.
