Douglas Dwight McCoy

Douglas “Doug” D. McCoy, 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Born on January 11, 1944 in Ogallala, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Robert and Rosetta (Bye) McCoy. He graduated from Ogallala High School and went on to the University of Nebraska where he received his bachelor’s degree in business. He went to work for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, retiring in 2008. His greatest joy was his children and he spent many hours coaching baseball with both of them and followed them when they were in the North Side Marching Redskin Band and all of their other activities. He also spent many hours following sporting events, Show Choir events and Taekwondo events with his grandchildren. He loved Nebraska football and his passion was golf, achieving two holes in one. His love of God was always on display and he served in many capacities at Forest Park United Methodist Church and then at Covenant United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Barbara (Vette) McCoy; daughter, Tamara (Michael) Pluimer; son, Robert (Amy) McCoy; grandchildren, Brian (Mariah), and Kaitlyn Pluimer and Owen and Caleb McCoy; great-grandson, Koe Pluimer and brother Roland McCoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosetta McCoy and sister Sharon. Arrangements have been entrusted to D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Project 216 in care of Covenant United Methodist Church, 10001 Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne 46825.
