Donald Eugene Schweyer, 86, of Hudson, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at his home. Born on September 14, 1931 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Clarence and Ruth (Schultz) Schweyer. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, in 1931 and was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1946. He graduated from New Haven High School, class of 1950. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and the U.S. Army during the Korean War, 1954 – 1956. He worked for GE for seven years and retired from Zollner Corporation in 1988 after 30 years of service. He then did small engine work for many years. He lived in Fort Wayne until moving to Big Turkey Lake in 1988. On May 3, 1958, he married Luella Mae (Zelt) Schweyer at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Soest, who preceded him in death in 2014. After their marriage, he joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and is now a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he has served as Trustee, Elder, and Deacon. In 2017, he participated in Honor Flight and was grateful for that experience. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Jeff) Derr of Huntington, Carolyn (Don) Cuney of Columbia City, and Mary Schweyer of Fort Wayne; twin-sons, Michael and Mark (Melanie), both of Fort Wayne; eleven grandchildren, Luke and Rachael (Travis Bruner) Henkenius, Jennifer (Jeff) Haneline, Jamie (Kendall) DeTar, Kyle, Brandon, Hannah, Miriam, Olivia, Sarah, and Elleana Schweyer; two twin great-granddaughters, Leighla and Melody; great-grandson, Lee; brother, Russell (Imogene) Schweyer of Fort Wayne; sister, Ruth Ann (Ronald) Knoblauch of New Haven; sister-in-law, Esther Schweyer of Ohio City, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence II and Harold. Funeral Service will be 11:00am on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 10275 E. 550 S., Hudson, Ind., with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be 2-6pm on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Committal Service will be 2:30pm on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Chapel, 5300 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.
