Don A. Phillips, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born February 27, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen (Speilman) Phillips. The family moved to Marion, Ohio, and Don graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1946. Upon graduation, Don proudly served in the U.S. Army where he served in the U.S. Occupation Forces of Japan, 1st Calvary Division, as an ambulance driver. He returned to Marion, Ohio, after an honorable discharge from the service in 1948. He attended Marion Business College and earned an Associate Degree. Don moved to Fort Wayne in 1952. Don’s professional career was as a manager of Moore’s Auto store, salesman for Weatherhead and Essex Wire, and service manager for Challenge Cook Brothers in Bryan, Ohio. He retired from Tec Hackett Eng. in 1991 as Vice President of Sales. Don was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for the last 22 years and formally a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Elks #155 and the American Legion Post 47. He is survived by his children, Barbara (John) Choka-Snider and Michael (Angela) Phillips, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Andy & Matt Choka and Avery & Grant Phillips; step-grandchildren, Sarah & Laura Snider, Arden, Alaina, Ana, and Thomas Sidel; and one great-grandchild, Mason Choka. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Roembke) Phillips. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00am at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Disabled American Veterans
