David William Springer, age 74, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, March 11, 2024. He was born July 30, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Elton and Phyllis (née Reed) Springer. David graduated from New Haven High School, Class of '68 and enlisted with the United States Air Force where he served as an MP stationed in Vietnam. David earned his LPN from Ivy Tech Community College and minor in Psychology from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne; he also held a Nursing Home Administrators license. He met the love of his life, Diane Lynn Souder, at Lutheran Hospital where they were both nurses and would marry on October 23, 1982; from this union, three children were born.
David was ever the proud "Papa" to his grandsons, loving them dearly, and cherished the time spent with friends and family. He could charm a room with his sense of humor or artful storytelling and had varied passions and interests. Sketching, reading - especially Vonnegut, an appreciation for diverse music styles, watching I.U. Basketball, spending summers on Lake Wawasee and a love for world travel, especially Greece. David exemplified the Christian walk in his personal and professional life and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
David is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Diane; children, Joel David (Christian) Springer and Julia Ann (Geoff) Ellingwood; grandchildren, Ayden William Ellingwood and Mason Philip Thomas Ellingwood; sister, Debra Scott; mother-in-law, Barbara Souder; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jarod Souder Springer; and father-in-law, Philip Souder.
Celebration of Life is 4 pm Sunday, March 17, 2024 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior.
