David William Peters, 56, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on February 18, 1967, in Fort Wayne to Charles and Janeen (Swift) Peters. David graduated from New Haven High School in 1985 and received his B.S. degree from IPFW. Dave was a member of Sons of the American Revolution. He was the local Chapter Secretary and President, and he was also the Indiana State Secretary. He has been awarded the Patriot Medal, the State Silver Meritorious Service Medal, and the State Roger Sherman Medal. He was a descendant of the pilgrims of the Mayflower. Besides his family and friends, Dave enjoyed listening to all types of music, playing his guitar, fishing, attending hockey games, coin collecting, and cycling. For the last fifteen years, Dave devoted his time and energy as caretaker for his parents. He is survived by his mother, Janeen Peters of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Robert (Julie Losher) and Daniel (R. L Balfe); three nieces, Elizabeth (Mikhail Skordos), Dr. Kathryn Peters, DVM (Griffin Grigsby), and Abigail Kosiara (Mallory); one nephew, Andrew Peters (Megan); and one great-niece, Josephine Skordos. David was preceded in passing by his father, Charles. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the funeral home. A private family graveside will be held at Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Indiana.
