Obituary of Cynthia Kay Duval
Cynthia Kay Duval, 67, of Fort Wayne, IN, entered the gates of Heaven peacefully on September 21, 2024. Cindy was born December 23, 1956 in Tampa, FL to Howard and Irene Smith. She met the love of her life, George Kevin Duval, at a church youth group in Tampa, FL, and they married on June 7, 1975. Kevin and Cindy raised two daughters, Carrie and Amanda, and two sons, Kevin Mitchell and Sean, in Fort Wayne, IN. Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Cindy’s life can be summed up by her love of family, food, flowers and, above all else, her faith; she loved the Lord with all her heart. Faith was the cornerstone of her life and guided her in everything she did, including being led to volunteer at the International House in Fort Wayne. There she followed Jesus’ example of loving and sharing her faith with refugees displaced by conflicts around the world. Cindy’s most cherished earthly possessions were that of her family. Cindy found immense joy in her role as the family matriarch, with one of her greatest joys in life being “Grammy” to her ten grandchildren. Her love of being with family wouldn’t be complete without the addition of food, especially homemade southern food and delicious sweets. That love never ceased and, for better or worse, was passed on to her children. Finally, Cindy’s love for flowers was evident throughout her life and can be seen most recently in her “Happy Place,” where she tended to them daily and enjoyed her morning cup of coffee. Cindy looked at flowers as a great reminder of God’s beauty on Earth. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Irene Smith; and her brother, Robert Smith. Cindy is survived by her loving husband, G. Kevin Duval; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Chip Parrish of Fort Wayne, IN; her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Zac Hill of Pendleton, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Mitchell and Sarah Duval of Austin, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Rylie Duval of Dayton, OH; and ten grandchildren: Isaac, Lucie, Gibson, Taylor, Trace, Maisie, Leela, Lincoln, Elsie Jo, and Adelyn Kay. Cindy is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Frank Vega; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Wayne Medley; sister-in-law, Virginia Smith; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank all those for their care, devotion, and support of Cindy and Kevin throughout their journey. There are no words to say that express the blessings we have received over these past fifteen months. A visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at The Chapel, 2505 West Hamilton Road South, Fort Wayne, IN 46814.
