Catherine (Kay) Durkes, 79, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2016 at her home in Fort Wayne.
Kay was born and raised in Liverpool, England where she met the love of her life, Indiana native Ronald Durkes, in 1955. The couple married in 1958 and moved to Rochester, Indiana. They later moved to Fort Wayne where they raised their family with joy, love and laughter; spent several years in Alexandria, VA; and returned home to Fort Wayne in 1995. Kay was a selfless wife and mother; a loyal, generous friend; a gifted prolific knitter who loved to travel, and one who loved to make others laugh.
Kay is survived by her three children; Diane (Jim) Starnes, Gary Durkes, and Debra Durkes; two grandchildren, Adam Durkes and Alexa Durkes; sister, Flo (Vince) Powers, sisters-in-law, Janice Mitchell, and Peggy Durkes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald (Ron) Durkes, her mother, Theresa Walpole and her father William Walpole.
Funeral service is 11 AM Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home 420 W. Wayne St. Ft. Wayne, IN 46802. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 Friday, February 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow service at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, Indiana.
