

Carol Burgess Freeman, 88 years old, passed away on April 3, 2025. Carol loved words, babies, and dogs, especially golden retrievers. Her rooms were filled with crafting supplies to quilt and needlepoint and stacks of books yet to be read.
She was born in Newark, New York on July 16, 1936, and from the beginning displayed the fierce intellect, independent spirit, and deep faith that would characterize the rest of her life. She leaves behind four children (John Henry, Daniel Henry (wife Donna Yeager), Beth Brooks (partner Peter Blum), and Matthew Henry (wife Carol), six grandchildren (Kaitlin, Thomas, Rennolds, Jackson, Grace Mary, and Samuel), and three great-grandchildren (Lily, Ziggy, and Rumi). She was predeceased by two husbands, John Henry and David Freeman.
Carol received her RN at the age of 16 in 1953, she later got her bachelor’s degree at the age of 47 from Purdue University and her master’s degree at 63 from St. Francis University. She was a healthcare administrator and a teacher of nurses. She took care of patients during the Attica prison riots. Carol retired from teaching and nursing after almost 60 years.
She moved with her family from New York to Fort Wayne in 1973 and subsequently moved to Indianapolis. She was a dedicated member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and delighted in the fellowship and prayer groups.
A funeral service will be held on May 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Blvd. East Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46220 with calling one hour prior. Donations may be sent to the church in her name.
