Carol R. Dare, 86, of Fort Wayne passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023. She was born on June 27, 1936 in Middletown, Ohio, a daughter of the late C. Alfred “Al” and Helen (Webb) West. She worked as a music teacher at a number of schools but primarily at Fort Wayne Community Schools, retiring from there after more than 30 years. She was a member at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Fort Wayne. She also led the choir and hand bell choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church. In her free time, she enjoyed weaving. Surviving family include her daughter, Christa (Felicia) Cartwright; brother, Paul (Connie) West; niece, Megan; and nephew, Craig. Besides her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, John Dare; and aunt, Ruth Webb. Funeral service is 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, 6404 South Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will also be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Irene S. Ator/AGO Music Scholarship Fund. Condolences may be left online at www.hockemeyermillerfh.com.
